The most common or famous in Samarahan are the homemade product especially the product that been produce in villages. Kampung Meranek is the one village that has produced its own product. This village more focus on the sea product such lobster, shrimp paste as well as their industrial product which is handicraft. Samarahan has suitable land for plantation it is because the land is non-hilly, flat and low lying. The most common and famous plantation that have in Samarahan is coconut, oil palm and pineapple.

Beside producing their own homemade product, Samarahan also famous with variety of food for example like Nasi Ayam Mak Entek, Nasi Abe, Nasi Bajet it also have many interesting place to eat one of them is restaurant O-Ten and as we know that Sarawak are famous with Kek Lapis and here at Samarahan has one of the famous place where we can get Kek Lapis Sarawak which is Asma Kek House.

Samarahan also suitable place for shopping tourist can go and shopping at The Summer Mall which is located at Kota Samarahan. This Mall is a three storey shopping mall with an underground car park. The adjacent Summer Lagoon Water Theme Park is on schedule to be open later. Its main tenants are Survey Hypermarket, Parkwell Department Store and Lotus Five Star, the region largest Lotus Five Star Cineplex with 12 comfortable hall consist of 9 elegent Cinema hall, two 3D Movie Hall and one classy theatre room.

Samarahan also has been called as educational centre which it has many universities and educational facilities such as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Institute of Teacher Education (Tun Abdul Razak Campus), Kota Samarahan Industrial Training Institute (ILPKS) and AAA Zenith Services (English language service provider).

History about Samarahan

Here the history about Kota Samarahan located in Sarawak.

Kota Samarahan was once known as Muara Tuang which was at that time a small trading village in the area. The village was linked to Kuching via a road only in the early 1970s. Before that, the only means of transport to the village was via the river. Development in the small village accelerated with the construction of a 25-kilometre road linking Kota Samarahan to Kuching.

The geographic in Kota Samarahan is almost a suburb of the greater metropolitan area of Kuching, in the Kuching Division. It is located about 30 km south east of Kuching. The lands in Samarahan are mostly non-hilly, flat and low-lying. Most of the soils are peat soils which are ideal for coconut, oil palm and pineapple plantation. Most of the development in the Samarahan Division is concentrated in Kota Samarahan.

Agriculture is still the main economic activity in Kota Samarahan but light industries are slowly moving in. The service sector, especially the in education related-sector, is increasingly becoming significant in Samarahan. Commercial centres are slowly mushrooming to cater for the increasing population.

The first transportation that connecting Samarahan and Kuching is via ferry at Sungai Kuap other than direct road access via Datuk Muhamad Musa which takes more distance to travel through. The construction of bridge has make shortened the road distance from between Kuching-Kota Samarahan to 11 kilometres. This new road which is Kuching-Kota Samarahan Expressway is link Kota Samarahan with the major industrial areas of Pending, Demak Laut and Sama Jaya.

Kota Samarahan has a concentration of universities and educational facilities and thus forms the educational hub for Sarawak. Institutions of higher learning in the area includes Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Mara Kota Samarahan (2 campuses), Institute of Teacher Education (Tun Abdul Razak Campus), Kota Samarahan Industrial Training Institute (ILPKS) and AAA Zenith Services (English language service provider).
